There comes a time in everyone's life when you are short of funds and have to make do with whatever you have and live within the means. Naturally you look at saving as much as possible or spending as little as possible. Food is one such main item that you try to cut down on in terms of expenditure.

But food is also one such item that is most flexible for you can find ways and means to prepare or have food within your means. It calls for being innovative and putting on your thinking hat.

Why not consider cooking all meals at home instead of eating out? . This means you can buy groceries in bulk which makes it really cheap. Secondly you get to choose the items and accordingly keep out expensive stuff and lastly you can cook only as much as you need.

When you look at the portions served at the restaurant, it is more than what one person can consume and hence results in a lot of wastage which of course you are paying for and this is something which can be avoided.

If it is practically not possible for you to cook meals at home everyday, then do not attempt doing it for it builds up stress which can be avoided. Instead look at other ways of reducing your food bill by looking for discounts and bargains at your favorite restaurant.

It is a normal practice for the restaurants to offer fifteen to twenty percent discount to their regular clientele and patrons. You too can get this by frequenting one or two restaurants and becoming a regular there. If you keep a watch on their bill board, then you can come to know of their weekend special discount or you get to know of it from the classifieds in newspaper too.

Those who are internet connection will find it easier to access the various websites and get to know of the schemes and discounts. They can also participate in online contests that offer free meal tickets and can save as much as possible.

Lastly, the control and savings on your food bill can come through your self control. Wondering how?. Next time you are tempted to dine out at an expensive place, exert self control and choose a cheaper and healthier place. When you are tempted to order more than two dishes, again order only that much which you can finish and you really need. Do not over indulge.
