Forklift Attachment Guide for Small Factories and Warehouses

By Justin Nielsen

All it takes is the right forklift attachment and there is virtually nothing your forklift cannot handle in the warehouse or factory. In fact, many companies purchase a forklift to fit their forklift attachment rather than the other way around.

This comes as a surprise to those who think that forklifts are primarily needed just for lifting pallets in a warehouse environment. Often, forklifts are so under-utilized that even experienced forklift drivers do not know just how versatile they can become if they have the right attachment.

It can easily cost your business more money if you don't buy an attachment than if you do. A very simple example of this is the broom attachment. Using one of these four foot long, deeply bristled brooms, a single forklift operator can sweep an entire area clean in minutes far faster than he could if he did the job with an ordinary broom. The savings in labor alone pays for the broom.

Attach an optional magnetized sweeper to the front of the broom and you can pick up all the metallic waste that brooms so often miss. Nails, screws and iron filings are notoriously difficult to sweep up and just pass beneath the broom. Nails and screws, which are the most difficult to sweep up also cause the most problems.

In contrast to the modern warehouse, which is designed for using forklifts full time, most factories only require their use for moving pallets occasionally. The rest of the time they stand dormant in a corner or are used inappropriately for lifting or moving heavy materials. They could be used efficiently and safely for these purposes if only there was a forklift boom on the premises.

One of the simplest and cheapest of these is the telescoping forklift boom. This is one forklift attachment there is no reason to go without. It simply slides on to the fork and can be telescoped to the required length. Chains, ropes or whatever is most appropriate can be secured around the object to be lifted and then onto the boom hook.

Aside from the inexpensive model described above, there are many other forklift booms on the market. Some of them can turn a forklift into such an effective crane that they become permanent or semi-permanent attachments and other forklift are used instead for other duties.

You cannot encapsulate all the varieties and uses of forklift attachments in a single article. In order to do so properly, an online catalog is needed. Are you using your forklift to its full potential? If not, check out all the varieties available online and find the forklift attachment that you need for your business.
